Red Oak Sapling

C$3.50Price

Red Oak (Quercus rubra) is a fast-growing, deciduous tree native to eastern and central North America. It is tolerant of a variety of site conditions, but prefers open, well-drained riparian areas.

Its acorns provide a crucial food source for a variety of wildlife, including deer, black bear, squirrels, and birds. Acorns, after soaking to remove tannins, can be eaten whole or ground into flour, and were traditionally an important food for indigenous people throughout their range.

Red Oak is also the provincial tree of Prince Edward Island.

Due to their preference for streamside habitats, dense foliage, and importance for wildlife, Red Oak makes an excellent riparian-area tree.
