Watershed Management

We have experience working with a range of entities - including governmental departments, NGOs, private companies, and individual landowners - to conduct a variety of watershed management services.

Watershed Plans

Whole-watershed scale plans are developed for identifying issues in a streamcourse, prescribing restoration tactics, and to gain a better understanding of a particular watershed and the species in it.

Devising a watershed plan can involve mapping, habitat suitability index assessments, electrofishing, aquatic connectivity assessments, water quality, redd surveys, and more depending on the goals of the plan.

Not sure what you need? We'd be happy to take a walk around your property or watershed to establish a working plan.

Fish Population Estimates

We have an experienced electrofishing crew with three certified operators and the equipment necessary to preform an array of fish sampling tasks and surveys.

To estimate populations, the electrofishing crew will "fish" the same area three times, each one being a "sweep". Fish are identified, measured, and counted after each sweep, with particular focus on Atlantic salmon and brook trout. Fish are released unharmed after the third sweep. The population density of each fish species in a surveyed stretch can be extrapolated to the rest of the watershed.

Fish Rescues

Along with population surveys, our electrofishing crew is also experienced with fish rescues.

Several passes will be completed to ensure all fish are caught and removed. Captured fish are moved within the same watershed to an area out of danger. Barrier nets are left on site for the remainder of a project to ensure fish do not re-enter the area.
